That is the opinion of Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, who said that unemployment levels are likely to stabilise or go down, because there is still a skills shortage in the UK.
It comes after statistics published by the Office for National Statistics revealed that the employment rate for those aged from 16 to 64 for the three months to September 2010 was 70.8 per cent, a rise on the previous quarter.
Despite fears over public and sector job cuts in the coming months, Mr Flaxton pointed to a recent letter signed and published by 35 of the top employers in the UK stating that any fallout from the public sector could be absorbed by the private sector, including sectors such as sales recruitment.
He explained: "This could take up the slack and find jobs for those people. I don't think we are going to see a dramatic rise in unemployment."
