Data issued by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG as part of their October Report on Jobs shows that there were rises in both permanent staff placements and temporary and contract staff billings last month.
The data showed that appointments rose at their slowest rate for 14 months, however, which highlights that the private sector still has work to do, said Kevin Green, the REC's chief executive.
"The Report on Jobs for October shows that the UK jobs market is still growing. However, the role of job creation now rests solely with the private sector and the government must do all it can to facilitate this process," he explained.
Last week, research carried out by Badenoch & Clark found that 44 per cent of workers in public sector jobs feel that they would not have to re-train for a role with a private enterprise and would be confident about switching sectors if required.
