That is the opinion of Kate Brown, HR director for organisational effectiveness at global insurance firm RSA, who told delegates at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) conference that the sector faces a "massive challenge".
According to the specialist, the key for many firms in the coming months will be to build an emotional attachment through engagement - something which may prove difficult in the insurance sector.
She noted: "I believe you can't have group-wide engagement strategies. It has to be locally owned. The issues people have in China or Columbia are very different to those in the UK or Ireland."
The recent HR Outlook, published by the CIPD, found that 41 per cent of HR professionals rate employee engagement as one of the top three priorities for the year ahead, while 38 per cent opted for performance management and reward.
