At the recent Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) national convention, industry commentators noted that more organisations are already using social media and the internet when looking to take on new staff.
Futurologist Dr James Bellini also predicted that such innovations will become more important to sales recruitment agencies and other employment organisations in the coming years.
Steve Hyde, chair of REC's marketing, media and creative industries sector group, added: "Using technology in the recruitment process is a reality and a change that we should pro-actively embrace. The world around us is evolving, as an industry we need to adapt."
However, he also reminded recruitment agencies not to neglect traditional face-to-face meetings, as these are often the most effective way of building trust between them and their clients.
Last month, the REC showed that the UK's recruitment industry achieved sales of just under £20 billion in the year to March 2010, despite enduring the economic downturn.
