Jobseekers call for disregard of social media profiles

A new report has revealed that most jobseekers in the sales recruitment sector and other industries would prefer employers not to judge them based on their social media profiles.

According to the research, carried out by MyJobGroup in conjunction with the Efficiency and Productivity Research Unit at the University of Leicester, candidates feel that social media profiles do not provide an accurate reflection of their abilities.

The poll found that 37 per cent of respondents "strongly agree" that employers should not judge candidates by their social media footprint, with only 4.8 per cent strongly disagreeing.

It also revealed that 31 per cent of hopefuls would consider taking further action if they were declined for an interview or job due to their social media profile.

However, at the recent Recruitment and Employment Confederation national convention, experts noted that more organisations are already using social media when looking to take on new staff, and such innovations will only become more important to sales recruitment agencies in the coming years.
