Those in sales jobs 'can no longer ignore social media'

Sales executives who are hoping to expand their brand and create a more expansive customer base have been advised to embrace social media.

Amy Jo Martin, founder and chief of social media consultancy Digital Royalty and author of social media book Renegades Write The Rules, believes that companies can no longer ignore the power of the internet.

"It's 2012, and people don't buy what you do but why you do it. Social media helps companies of all sizes expose the individuals behind the brand, humanise it and build influence," she underlined.

Sales people keen to expand into social media are encouraged by Ms Martin to connect with their customers by humanising their brand over sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Friendly questions can also be asked of followers to get an idea of what the public is after from a brand, while social media portals also enable firms to strengthen their relationships with journalists.
