Employers advised 'set up a service to tackle workplace discrimination'

Employers have been giving advice on how they can work to tackle instances of discrimination in the workplace.

John Rushton, The Life Doctor, readily admits that there is "no perfect solution" to tackle this issue, with some companies reacting much better to cases of discrimination than others.

However, the expert acknowledged: "Much of it stems from the top downwards and at times unsuitable recruitment. Having people of good temperament is as important as their ability to do their job."

Furthermore, Mr Rushton recommends every company to set up a system where a grievance or complaint relating to discrimination can be aired.

This does not even need to be technology heavy, as it can simply be a person of confidence who staff members can approach to highlight an objection.

Mr Rushton's advice was delivered just as an age discrimination ban was introduced in the UK.

From October 1st 2012, it will be unlawful for service providers, whether they are in private or public service jobs, to discriminate solely on the basis of age.
