British retail sales figures 'relatively encouraging'

The imminent arrival of the chilly winter months and the start of a new school year have resulted in retail sales rising significantly in September.

Data released by the Office for National Statistics today (October 18th) revealed that more demand has been recorded across the board in this industry.

For example, sales volumes including automotive fuel increased by 0.6 per cent from August to September, while clothing and footwear sales rose by two per cent over the same month.

When looking over the entire third quarter of 2012, which ran from July to September, retail sales were up by one per cent when compared to the previous three months.

Annalisa Piazza, an economist at Newedge Strategy, believes that the latest Office for National Statistics report "is relatively encouraging" for the retail industry.

She is also hopeful for the economy in the months ahead, commenting: "Some strength in business confidence - for example - might convince the Monetary Policy Committee that no action is needed for now."

Aaron Wallis have a dedicated retail sales team filling sales positions across a wide spectrum of the retail industry. Offering a 12 month rebate scheme, Aaron Wallis provide a retail recruitment service that is second to none.
