According to the index, the country's manufacturing sector continued its strong start to the year, with rates of growth in output and new orders consistent with January's 16-year peaks.
"Increased staffing levels reflected higher production and rising new order books. Job creation was at series record highs in both the consumer and intermediate goods sectors, and also accelerated at capital goods producers," the report states.
Commenting on the figures, David Noble, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply, said that strong growth in demand across the manufacturing sector has continued to "put breath in the sails" of the UK economy.
Last week, Ed Moss, a spokesman for the Manufacturing Institute, said that there is "certainly" positivity returning to the industry as orders increase and the reputation of British produce is restored.
