Recruiters 'need to understand AWR'

Recruiters need to get to grips with the impending Agency Worker Regulations (AWR) if they are to avoid pitfalls, one expert on the subject has asserted.

Speaking to Recruiter magazine, Brian Wilkinson, head of Randstad UK, said that employers should conduct an assessment of the impact of impending regulations, after a survey by his firm showed 37 per cent of employers are unfamiliar with AWR.

The expert said it is a "concern" that such a high proportion of organisations are so unprepared, as a failure to be ready could affect staff, including those in sales jobs.

"We urge all users of agency workers to conduct a thorough assessment of their human capital resources and the impact of the regulations to optimise the structure and efficiency of their workforces," Mr Wilkinson advised.

Late last year, the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) hosted half-day workshops aimed at helping members learn more about the impact the new rules will have on their business and enable them to inform clients about how they will change the ways agency workers are assigned.
