Figures published by Incomes Data Services (IDS) show that the median pay settlement level rose sharply to 2.8 per cent in the three months to January 2011, which is a further increase on the 2.2 per cent jump seen in the previous quarter.
According to the data, nearly half of awards are at three per cent and above, with workers in private sector organisations benefitting from almost universal increases, including those in sales recruitment.
Ken Mulkearn, editor of the IDS Pay Report, said: "Our latest figures show that wage rises have picked up in manufacturing and the level of awards in private services appears to have picked up too. The number of awards at three per cent or above has been rising and this has emerged as a key figure in pay setting."
According to a recent survey carried out by Aaron Wallis Sales Recruitment, 70 per cent of people in sales jobs reported that they would take a 50 per cent pay rise even if it impacted on their daily work life balance.
