Staff productivity 'can be improved through homeworking'

The productivity of the nation's employees, including sales recruitment staff, could be improved if more businesses allowed them to work from home, one sector expert has suggested.

Shirley Borrett, development director at the Telework Association, said that allowing homeworking would improve staff contentment as it creates a greater sense of freedom.

She pointed out that this method also means staff members who feel slightly under the weather and may usually call in sick may feel like they can work remotely instead and help to prevent lost man hours.

The expert added: "That leads us into continuity of business and the whole disruption recently due to weather. Those people that can work from home help their business to carry on working even when office-based people are stumped."

It comes after a survey by Dymo suggested that staff who are allowed to work from home are more productive than colleagues who are solely based in the office.
