A recent survey by Aaron Wallis Recruitment revealed that the proportion of candidates applying for four jobs or more at the same time is 73 per cent - a huge rise on the 39 per cent who did the same in 2007.
This growth seems to be attributed to the rise of the internet as an application platform, as over a third of jobseekers are applying for 20 or more jobs at a time and more than quarter are sending out applications for in excess of 50 jobs in a single sitting.
"Perhaps as expected in the internet era, people are applying for more jobs at once than they claimed that they were doing back in 2007. 79 per cent of people found that the internet has made it easier to find a new job," the survey states.
According to Mark Riley, marketing manager of My Job Group, the second Tuesday in January always sees more application activity than any other day of the year as people look to start the year with a new job.
