According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the UK employment market will continue to evolve to reflect the changing demographics of society.
His comments followed the coalition government's announcement that the default retirement age is to be scrapped, so that companies can no longer make workers aged 65 or over redundant purely based on their age.
Tom Hadley, the REC's director of policy and professional services, said that the government's move will cerate complexities, but these can be offset by recruiters assisting older staff, which includes those in sales recruitment.
He explained: "There will be an increasing desire and, in many cases, an increasing need for individuals to prolong their working lives. Professional recruiters can play a key role by helping older workers to explore new opportunities and access both temporary and permanent jobs."
