Gerry McLaughlin, of ITContractor.com, said that people who have taken the time to gain technical qualifications and have a bit of experience in the field have an excellent chance to fill skilled roles at the moment.
His comments follow the publication of a report by e-skills UK which showed that demand for information and communications technology staff rose five per cent in the first quarter of 2010 to 86,000.
Mr McLaughlin stated: "So, IT will prove to be a lucrative and much safer profession over the next five to ten years. The information age has arrived and those working in IT are in the vanguard of it."
Earlier this week, global analyst Gartner polled 358 organisations in the IT sector and found that the industry is beginning to boost employment levels as confidence returns.
