Speaking at a Recruitment Society meeting in London, Jon Porter, managing director of TMP Worldwide, said that social media applications may allow more direct targeting of candidates, but these individuals must first be found before these tactics are employed.
He noted: "Does it represent a seismic change? No. But I believe that the market is getting faster and faster, and we are delivering a more and more sophisticated message to a more and more sophisticated audience."
Geoff Newman, chief executive of Recruitment Genius, said that social media in recruitment works well for techno-savvy people, but it has failed to exceed some of the hype which industry leaders were generating.
Earlier this year, Di Forster, director at SEO Junkies, told Internet World that companies using sales recruitment and people in sales jobs need to ensure that they embrace social media as a marketing tool, whether they like it or not.
