UK firms 'opting for temporary staff and freelancers'

The number of temporary and freelance workers that are being hired in the UK is on the increase, according to the latest figures from the Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo).

Businesses in the UK are using the temporary workers to meet the extra demand during October 2012 and as a result the number of non-permanent positions seen in the UK went up by four per cent over the course of the month.

Anne Swain, chief executive of APSCo, commented that the results show a definite trend and the use of contract workers is offering an increased amount of flexibility to both employees and employers.

A spokesperson for UK umbrella company Tarpon said: "This will no doubt give a boost of confidence to all the current temporary workers in the UK today. This news will help confirm the legitimacy of contracting and freelancing in the UK."
