Research carried out by IntaPeople showed that there is a growing demand for people in the engineering sector and listed the top ten most in demand positions in the first six months of 2010.
Buyers and cost engineers, supply chain consultants and planning engineers all featured on the list, which shows that the sector is bucking the trend seen in many other industries following the recession, said Chris Day, head of IntaPeople's engineering division.
"Despite some difficult conditions, organisations across the country have continued to recruit highly talented engineers as they look to deliver innovative, market-leading solutions," he explained.
Mr Day added that the growing demand for logistical experts also coincides with the launch of a number of "exciting new projects" around the country.
It comes after Steve Huxham, chairman of the Recruitment Society, suggested that many staff may be looking to make the switch to other sectors, such as engineering, to take advantage of more buoyant job markets.
