Accountancy body ICAEW and accountants Grant Thornton have compiled a study for the second quarter of 2010 which reveals that companies have experienced their lowest fall in staff numbers since the beginning of last year.
In addition, firms expect the number of people they employ to increase by 1.1 per cent during the next year, with salary growth for those in sales jobs and other sectors expected to be approximately 1.5 per cent during the next 12 months.
Scott Barnes, chief executive of Grant Thornton, commented: "Clearly economic conditions remain tough but there are signs that some companies are looking to switch from short-term survival measures to opportunities for growth."
Meanwhile, in a recent article published on OnRec.com, Alex Pratt, entrepreneur and author of Austerity Business: 39 Tips for Doing More with Less, said that traditional attitudes to sales recruitment need to change to ensure that businesses are operating efficiently.
