In total, seven new university and business research partnerships were revealed by David Willetts, minister for universities and science.
The projects cover such sectors as life sciences and advanced manufacturing, and lift the number of winning bids as part of the UK Research Partnership Investment Fund to 14.
One of the newly-announced investment schemes is a £38 million partnership between University of Manchester, The Christie hospital and Cancer Research UK, with the intention of creating the Manchester Cancer Research Centre.
Meanwhile, a collaboration between Queen's University Belfast, The Atlantic Philanthropies, a Wellcome-Wolfson Capital Award, The Sir Jules Thorn Charitable Trust and the Insight Trust for the Visually Impaired, worth £32 million, is set to push forward the next phase of the Institute of Health Sciences.
Mr Willetts acknowledged: "The winning projects will tackle the key issues we face – like fighting disease, ensuring energy efficiency and improving infrastructure – for the benefit of all."
